I'll be back~!

It's crazy to note but I'll be going to Chiang Mai, Thailand in 6 hours time. The flight's at 7am.

Why am I travelling at this time of the year? Don't really know why... I'm chalking it off as our family's postponed year-end vacation. Right... I'm all packed and will be missing three days of classes.

No one will miss me but I'll miss everyone~! Going to go all photo frenzy there with the digital SLR. Woohoo~! I'll worry about the work later... [digging my own grave]

Hahaha~! Cheers~!

Fun & Preparation

I meant to update much much sooner than this... I mean, I had a billion and one things I wanted to blog about. Haha~! I have no life people...

Well, plenty of things happened since the last update. For one, I came across some nice website from the newsletter adobe edge.
This one is from adobe itself. Under the project name "Creative Mind" I think.

In the site, there was an interview with Joshua Davis. [hears squeals of excitement from Joshua Davis fan] Hehe...

Then there was this site from Audi. This car is so cool~!
I want it... [dreams of owning this car] Cars are expensive.
I was Midvalley today and saw that the car was selling for RM130k. I hate to imagine the price tags on the Tokyo modified cars that were on display in the exhibition halls.

The last website was a curious one... It was mostly in japanese.. So I didn't know what it was about. As far as I could find out, it's a company website.

Don't you think it's a strange sight to see me photographing a coin? An arcade coin nonetheless. Well, this fellow reminded me of how the arcade in Pyramid is currently not there anymore. [weeps buckets] And it was such a nice place to de-stress too~! So I never got to use this last coin of the arcade. Maybe the arcade would come back... I'm hopeful. [keeping fingers crossed]

Ah... This photo is when Pui Yee and I were in KL and meeting up with Karen to eat at Coliseum. I try to practice taking photographs to improve my photography skills.

Often I feel that my photography is nothing special but still I enjoy taking them. Odd feelings...

Anyway if you want to make your way to Coliseum restaurant, the best landmark would be Masjid Jamek station.

Then you walk around until you see this. Haha~! You may want to search for better directions elsewhere. I'm directionally challenged~!

It's a quaint little restaurant that have that olden time feeling.

The food's really very nice too. I believe I've said this in the last post about this place.

This was what I had. Chicken Maryland. Delicious and filling. The best of both worlds. Hehe...

So after lunch, Karen and us (Pui Yee and I) parted ways and headed back to the car.

My main subject: Pui Yee. Muahaha.. She's such a good sport~! Plus she gave me permission to post her photos.

There was this odd stairway that seemed to head underground at Dataran Merdeka. We were tempted to go down to escape the sun... but the uncertainty of where the end of this tunnel will lead us adviced us otherwise.

But really, it was very very hot and sunny that even this fountain look like a potentially cool swimming pool. "Pui Yee, don't jump in~! Got policemen around." Not that she'll jump in, anyway. But you never know what tinkers in that mind of hers. Hehehe~!

So on the way of sending her home, we made a detour to see "eye on Malaysia", one of the government's attractions for the visit Malaysia year. The plus point is they cleaned the filthy lake. Yay for clean lake.. well, it's clean on the surface. The downpoint: One never knows about the bottom.

This shot was purely accidental and a matter of clicking at the right time. I think it turned out very nicely.

Even the ticketing booth was of the gondola of the ferris wheel. They priced it at RM15 per person.. It's actually relatively cheap. The one in Vienna was 7 Euro Dollar (about RM35). I would have gone on the ferris wheel if I wasn't so broke. It would have been such a lovely trip.

Speaking of trips, there was one fortunate time when I managed to step into the mysterious realm of the Multimedia office. I was like wow... I neither charged in nor was I invited in. I had to use the table to write something on. But while in there, my eyes more or less loitered on their own. They had a nice library of software books and posters of interesting digital work. People in there run on music, so headphones are a often sight. Such a nice experience...

Right, these photos are from the committee meeting we had. It's about the fun food fair... but from the look of these people's faces...

Something that was suppose to be fun had been killed.

It's no fun attending meeting and all of us don't bother to mask it, making it err.. more boring..

Ahh~! Something more interesting. Zero 2 Zero.

Zero would be another interesting subject to photograph but he does them himself mostly. Oh well, we were waiting in the drama lab for the second meeting of the day to start. Crazy.

What's more crazy is my whole friday used to do Kuih Kapit (love letters). First, we use charcoal fire because it taste better cooking on charcoal fire.

Ah~! Let there be light~!

Before we had this nifty barbeque set (red thing), we had to use the lower burning tool (square thing on the right) It was so much easier to work with the barbeque set since we can normally sit on chair and tend to the "clips".

So this is about how you make them Kuih Kapit.
1. First you heat them over the fire.
2. Then you oil the insides of the clips. You don't have to oil the clips all the time. Only when the Kuih Kapit is too sticky onto the surface.

3. Anyway, after the clips are hot enough, you pour this mixture of flours, sugar, coconut milk and water onto the surface.
4. And them you clip the clip and put it over the fire.

5. You'll need to scrap off the excess Kuih Kapit mixture from the outside of clip.
6. You need to be cautious of the colour of the Kuih Kapit. It's over the fire after all and it gets done rather quickly.
7. When it's a nice light brown, you open the clip and remove the piping hot soft Kuih Kapit.
8. Very quickly, you'll need to fold them to whatever shape you want them to be. In our case, we fold them into quarters. The reason why you need to fold them quickly is because you can fold them while it's hot but when it cools down, it harden and becomes brittle.
9. Repeat the process 3 to 8 over and over and over and over again.
The only thing that breaks this monotony is fanning the fire and adding more charcoal to keep the fire on.

Even when it rained in the evening, we're still doing the Kuih Kapit. Gilar~!

In the end we made enough Kuih Kapit to fill 3 and a half of cans of milo tins. I'll be doing Chocolate Chip Cookies and Konnyaku Jelly later today. So please do buy the cookies and Jelly from me during the food fair. I put much effort into making them. At least they turn out better than all my design works combined. [shrugs] Cheers~!

Invasion of "Massive Territory"

Saturday came and the day of the take over of "Massive Territory" arrived [some Godzilla sound in background can be heard]. Let the chaos begin... or something like that.

I managed to pull myself from Mr Zhao's place aka sleep rather early in the morning. Got up at a respectable hour of 7. [proud of myself]

Since I was not familiar with the place (although I drove to Zouk before), I opted for the monorail. I had to kick my younger sis out of bed to send me here. [evil laugh]

Reaching the Bukit Nanas station, I saw Pui Yee on the monorail train that came from the opposite direction. Coincidently arriving there at the same time. Cool~!

Massive Territory is a conference where top inspiring international and local designers gather to extort money from poor art students like us by taking RM110 entrance fee.. Joking la. I believe it's to give exposure, motivation and inspiration to budding young local designers (I was there somehow as a science person).

It was held here, the Malaysian Tourism Centre. First time being there... No reason to come here before. Odd place to hold a conference like this... Maybe the rent's cheap. [shrugs]

Curiously, there were a few stall setup up by local, young designers, outside the amphitheatre. I'll talk more about this later in this blog...

Right, the conference talk had a healthy series of speakers such as Jun Ning (Malaysia), Kustaa Saksi (Finland), Chris Lee (Singapore), Scien (123Klan), Kinetic Team (Singapore), Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo Lab (Japan), Joshua Davis (United States). Above is Jun Ning speaking about Saladin.

This one's from Chris Lee, Creative Director of Asylum. How curious. Asylum is our theme for our graduation campaign. I like how Chris Lee did his presentation kit. It was like a silent movie feel and it had an interesting twist of telling the company history. It was very funny~!

It is conference like this that the Intermission can came to the rescue.. Sitting in a big amphitheatre, even in comfortable cushioned seats, you'd want to stretch your legs and get off your bum. Plus it gives time for the brain to absorb the information dished out from the speakers.

It was no easy task going out of the theatre. Everyone was stopping to look at the display and things outside.

Seeing this dim sum baskets remind me of how difficult it was to find cheap food around. It's so queer why there aren't people making use of this opportunity of set up a food stall. If I open a food stall, I bet ya all my food would sell off. Marketing, people~! [sigh]

It seeems that Pui Yee was able to spot some of the people there whom she knows. Walking with her the whole day, she managed to spot quite a number... This one was one of them. Tada, Jay Lim. Ladies, he's taken. Hahaha~!

So since there weren't any place that Pui Yee and I could go for lunch, we went around to satisfy our photography hunger instead.

Oh look, KL towers.

Maybe a close up would make it more interesting. Nah, still looks the same.

As first half was over, we were told that there was a demo of graffiti. Here we set our eyes on the miracle of graffiti in five photo shots.

One~!

Two~!

Three~!

Four~!

Five~! Tada, done. It took about 20 minutes for this to be done. I was worried that the talk had started without us.

But lo and behold, our dear graffiti artist, Scien was the next speaker. Haha~! He and his wife, Klor are from a group called 123Klan from France.

Our last speaker was a dude that frankly before this conference I only knew his name, Joshua Davis. Sweii was crazy about him, Pui Yee was crazy about him. Ok...

Turns out he's an excellent speaker. His talk was about the only one where he encouraged audition response and had us laughing til our sides hurt. He has a mean knowledge of programming and knew how to use it to the advantage of Work Smart.

So after the talk, there was a discussion session with ended very quickly and then an autograph session. Here's Pui Yee taking her turn to get Joshua Davis to sign.

I waited for the crowd to disperse and then got him to autograph and take this photo with me. Neat~! I liked his charisma.

It was funny on how Joshua and Scien was somewhat "competing" on who can sign all their fans signature first. Joshua won. Hahha~!

Here's our MM peeps who attended this conference. Probably would have dragged the MM lecturers who came too into the photo except they dashed off somewhere. [shrugs]

Crazy people~!

It was about 7pm by the time we walked out of the MTC and we were very very hungry. No lunch and then it was dinnertime. Ooo... nice sky~! ["Ka-click" goes the camera]

Made our way to Sungai Wang and stopped to stop at my favourite shop, Hot Mama. This was my third time here, first introduced by Pui Yee. If the shop's good and the price is good, I'll comeback to the shop.

I had myself Hot Mama Assam Laksa and...

Honey Lime drink (both the shop's specialities).

Pui Yee had Chinese Stir Fry Pasta...

With Water Chestnut drink. Yummy

And for dessert, Tapioca Double Delight. It was soooooooooooooo Good~! I recommend this shop to anyone. The price is acceptable and the atmosphere's nice.

So after dinner, I made my way back to KL central to wait for someone to fetch me home. KL central is now so busy with it being a bus terminal and...

a taxi stop. It used to be nice and free. [sigh] It was because of the jam and the lively Brickfields that for some apparent reason selling lots of bamboo stalks and flowers that night, I got home later.

But look~! These were my spoils of the day. Muahaha~! All in all, it was a very fun day

It took me the whole day Sunday to resize and upload them photos. Crazy Internet. Hope you had fun reading it. Cheers~!
